This choir was founded in 1983 with one main aim: to rediscover classical music – sacral as well as world music, mostly composed in the 17th, 18th or 19th century in city or the region of Augsburg, and present it to a broader audience. Music scientist Erich Gackowski managed to find lost pieces of music by famous as well as unknown composers – the reason why this choir has already sang more than 150 world premieres by 61 almost forgotten composers. Most concerts are part of services, festivals or other celebrations in the choir’s “homebase!, the Dominican Church of Heilig Kreuz in Augsburg, a place which has always been an attraction for lovers of ambitious and sacral music. Not without a reason, Leopold and Wolfgang Amadé Mozart have often performed at that place as guests of the church. As their works have always been regarded as very precious, the church’s archive owns man significant works by the Mozarts. Some concerts take place in other magnificent cultural institutions in and around Augsburg. The choir’s musical director, Franz Wallisch, makes every audience enjoy this music with all senses and due to his enthusiasm manages to reach all aims easily.
